Privacy Policy

The short version: TipChip does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. There is no account, no analytics, and no advertising. Everything — reading the receipt, the math, and your saved checks — happens entirely on your device.

1. Information we collect

None. TipChip has no user accounts and contains no analytics, tracking, or advertising software. The app does not send your data to us or to anyone else. We, the developer, have no way to see the receipts, names, amounts, or checks you work with.

2. Camera and photos

When you scan a receipt, the image is read on your device using the operating system's built-in text recognition (Google ML Kit on Android, Apple Vision on iOS). Receipt photos are never uploaded anywhere. If you pick an existing photo instead, it is processed the same way — locally, then discarded.

3. Data stored on your device

To make the app work, some information is saved only on your phone, in the app's private storage:

The names you type for people in a check (e.g. "Alex", "Maya").
Your past checks (items, amounts, splits) so you can look them back up.
App preferences (theme, language, currency).

This data never leaves your device. You can delete any past check inside the app, and removing (uninstalling) TipChip erases all of it.

4. Payments

TipChip never touches your money. It only calculates who owes what; you send each person's share yourself, using whatever app you already use. Your card, bank, or payment details never pass through TipChip.

5. Diagnostics

TipChip keeps a small technical log on your device to help fix bugs. It never contains receipt contents, names, or amounts, and it is never sent automatically. It leaves your device only if you personally choose to share it from the app's settings.

6. Sharing with third parties

We do not share your data with anyone, because we never collect it in the first place. When you tap "Share" to send someone their amount, your device's normal share sheet is used and you choose where it goes — TipChip has no access to those messages.

7. Children

TipChip is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
